5-day vehicle-assisted hike, overnight in huts, full board, cooking service.
A trip to one of the hottest geothermal sites in the world: the area around Torfajökull glacier. This is one of the most popular outdoor havens in Iceland, but the areas we will explore are off the beaten track and not known to many. Locals are getting interested in the area, around half of the group is normally Icelandic.

Among the areas to be visited: Reykjadalur (Smoke Valley), Hrafntinnusker  (Obsidian Reef rich in magnificent obsidian rock), and the Háserðingur mountain peak.

We put huge emphasis on good local food and offer our guests traditional Icelandic dishes. For breakfast organic porridge from Icelandic barley, delicious delicacies on the road and meals from high quality raw materials.

Day 1: Participants will be picked up from their lodgings around 7:30 a.m. on the date of departure. We will take the route up Hellisheiði heath, into the Torfajökull lava landscape where we jump off to start the walk. We hike amongst incredible lava formations in the region of Mt.Laufafell. Further we go along river Markárfljót to our nice cabin in Reykjadalur, Steamy-Valley where we spent the next two nights.

Day 2:  We will spend the day exploring the magnificent off the beaten track geothermal site around Hrafntinnusker (Obsidian Reef). If skies are clear, a unique view over most of the glaciers in Iceland.

Day 3: We cross another geo-thermal area, the dark edge of Svartikambur. The hike leads us down to the sparkling green Dómadalur valley. Dinner and overnight in a hut at the feet of Mt. Loðmundur.

Day 4:  A pleasant hike along lakes, rivers and lava fields. með Sauðleysuvatni, Lambafitjahrauni og Valagjá. Here we are beginning to feel strongly the presence of the famous Mt. Hekla; for centuries people believed the crater on top of Mt. Hekla was the gateway to hell or even hell itself. And underneath the home of Satan himself. We hike in the black desert landscape towards our home in a cosy turf-house hut where we prepare our last dinner in the highlands.

Day 5: We hike towards Mt. Hekla over the soft black ash and pumice along lava streams from different eruption periods. On the way we find fresh freshwater resources of river Rangá streaming directly out of the lava field. As pure as it gets. Afternoon drive back to civilization.
